Abstract

In Egypt, aquaculture fish production is facing many obstacles. This study aims to identify the problems facing production and propose solutions. Specifically, by using survey data obtained from interviews of 33 randomly selected fish farmers in Ismailia city. The study was performed during the period from November 2023 to December 2024. The producers’ related questionnaire investigated production, environmental, health, economic, legislative challenges and infrastructure evaluation. All collected responses were coded and entered into SPSS for analysis then analyzed using both quantitative and qualitative methods. The production function for fish output in Ismailia was estimated to be using linear and logarithmic models, with the logarithmic model providing more accurate results. Overall, the estimation results revealed that the chosen model is appropriate to analyze the constraints that hinder fish production. About (100%) of fish producers reported high feed prices, poor feed quality, rain level change, diseases and price fluctuations as major challenges. Moreover (96.97%) of them poor water quality as another challenge. The correlation analysis showed medium positive relationships among fish price and diseases incidence (0.49), while the medium negative correlations with total production and disease incidence (-0.55). This study provides useful information for designing effective strategies for fish producers.
