Moringa oleifera Nanoparticles Modulate Genes Expression Involved in Doxorubicin-Induced Cardiotoxicity in Rats

Abstract

Introduction: Nano-formulations of Moringa oleifera have various medicinal interests. It has been used to combat the consequences of many chemotherapeutics. Aim: The study was conducted to assess the molecular effect of Moringa oleifera nanoparticles (MONPs) on doxorubicin-induced cardiotoxicity (DIC) in breast cancer-induced rats (BC-induced). Material and methods: 35 albino rats were categorized into control (healthy) and BC-induced rats. The BC-induced group was further categorized into 4 groups to assess both prophylactic and synergistic action of MONPs. mRNA was extracted from cardiac tissues, then cDNA was synthesized, and primers for Smad3, 7, TGF- , STAT3, and Let-7b were used for amplification by RT-PCR. Results: MONPs induced a significant reduction in the mRNA expression levels of TGF-β1/Smad3, JAK-1/STAT3 pathways genes, and a significant elevation in the mRNA expression levels of Smad7 and miRNA Let-7b. Conclusion: Findings of the present study approved the powerful potential of MONPs to mitigate DIC in BC-induced rats, opening the way for their use as a supportive and protective agent during the use of DOX as chemotherapy
